Hey Rob, I saw GMRS.iO on Reddit twice in the last week and figured I would give it a try. The layout looks pretty nice….well done!

Thanks Randy! It's brand new, so not many people around - at least on the forums! :) Hey, we're both using the kg-1000g+!
Yes, the KG-1000 G Plus is a rock solid mobile and great as a base station setup. I needed more power than my little KG-935G HT could provide with a max watt output of only 5.5watts. Coupled with my all copper Slim Jim base antenna mounted about 26-28 feet high, I’m doing ok.
Whiskey Sierra November Bravo 412 - Johnny in Lakeport, California. My back is to the Mayacamas Mountains range: my front is pointed toward Big Valley and Clearlake. Nearest repeater is on the wrong side of the terrain. Hope to fill that void some myself in time.
I work as a Vegetation Management Inspector which means I inspect trees along power lines. Power lines run where people live, and here a lot of people live in the mountains and valleys. I work on a crew of 9 guys, so I started GMRS as a way to comm with them (who invest in a license and radio) for coordination and safety. Lots of hiking in fabulous scenery. Doesn't get better if you have to work to live.
Hey Johnny (WSNB412),
Are you using myGMRS.com to see all the GMRS repeaters in your area?
Yes. Unfortunately, in my area of California, GMRS seems to not be very popular, or frequencies are tone-locked. Not hearing much activity within my range. But all I have so far is HTs. The base comes later, after the mobile repeater. Maybe at some point a fixed home repeater also.
I started with HT’s and later added 50watt mobile radios for both 2m / 70cm and GMRS. I experienced minimal success with the stock rubber-duckie antenna that normally ships with HT’s and quickly upgraded to better antennas. I’ve used the Nagoya NA-771G single-band GMRS HT antenna which was a big improvement for both transmit and receive but the biggest jump in performance was switching to the ABBREE 42.5in foldable single-band GMRS HT antenna. The ABBREE is like a wide tape measure wrapped in heat-shrink tubing….ha! But it out performs all of the previous GMRS antennas. I also tried the Signal Stick dual-band 2m/70cm HT antenna on my 2m / 70cm HT and eventually switched to an ABBREE 42.5in foldable antenna for dual-band 2m/70cm HT operation.
My 50watt GMRS mobile is hooked up to a copper Slim-Jim base antenna up on the roof and gives me great coverage. See a pic in my profile.
